Ecolast - Ocean Waste Swimwear by Zoggs

The problem of ocean waste is increasing at an alarming rate and media coverage is becoming more and more expansive. As a result many companies are starting to make positive changes in the way they operate. One of the brands stepping up is Zoggs.

Launching this AW18 season is their Ecolast swimwear range, created from plastic waste taken from the ocean. Using abandoned ghost fishing nets, carpet and industrial waste, new swimwear is created using the innovative ECONYL® technology. Once the nets are cleaned and shredded, the regeneration process begins. At the ECONYL® depolymerisation plant, prepared waste returns to a raw material where it is transformed into Nylon 6 polymers used to produce the ECONYL® yarn. Made from 100% regenerated waste material, the yarn performs as well as any other nylon yarn manufactured using crude oil. More can be seen about this process in the video below.

Zogg's Ecolast swimwear is then constructed using 78% ECONYL® yarn and 22% LYCRA® XTRA LIFETM for a soft, comfortable, high performance swimwear fabric. This fabric has proven to be 15 times more resilient to chlorine than standard swimwear fabrics. 

The Ecolast range has launched for this season but will be rolled out across the brand's range in 2019 when around 40% of the SS19 collection will be created using this incredible ocean waste product, and 10% of the profits from the collection will be donated to charity. Further to this, by 2019 Zoggs aim to reduce the plastic used in their goggle packaging by 57% with a view to their packaging being 100% sustainable by 2020.
